How to Initiate a Charge

Once your patient has an approval and you've agreed on a plan together, initiating the charge finalizes the financing and sends the contract for signature. The same steps work for every lender.

Review the options first

Before charging, click the calculator icon next to Initiate Charge to review the available terms, monthly payments, and any required down payment. This doesn't start the charge, and you can pull it up any time by searching the patient. Patients see up to three plans, but the calculator shows you every term the lender offers. You can also open the Lender Guide for details like the lender's credit bureau and support phone numbers.

Initiate the charge

  1. Click Initiate Charge.

  2. Enter the finalized dollar amount you agreed on with the patient — you can adjust up or down within the approved limit.

  3. Click Next, then pre-select the term the patient chose.

  4. Send the finalized application by email or text so the patient can confirm, e-sign their contract, and set up autopay. To send documents to a phone instead of email, choose SMS at this step. You can watch which step they're on from your portal.

Confirming the charge

As the patient signs, the status moves from Approved to Pending Signature, then to Charged (shown as Success) once they e-sign. Under $ Financed you'll see the final amount financed for the treatment plan. That's it — the patient is financed.

Funding typically completes within 24 hours of signing, and the deposit reaches your bank within about 72 hours of processing the charge.

Troubleshooting

If the status still shows Pending after the patient has signed, the platform may need a moment to sync with the lender — refresh the page, and if it doesn't update after a short time, contact support. If the patient can't open their documents, ask them to check spam or junk first; if a pop-up blocker is the culprit, cancel the request from the three-dot menu, re-initiate the charge, and send the link via SMS.

Note: you can't change the patient's email or phone at this stage, so make sure they were entered correctly when the application was created. Before signing, a request can be cancelled from the three-dot menu and re-initiated.
